Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition – this is what STARSkate is all about!
STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the
areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Skaters who have mastered figure skating skills in STARSkate may also choose to pursue synchronized skating or pairs skating.
At the BASC, STARSkate is provided by group lessons both on Wednesday nights and Saturdays. Private lessons are also available by professional coaches but not mandatory.
On a STARSkate A session, skaters are working on stage 6 and 7 badges and on a STARSkate B session, skaters have passed their first Skate Canada test (a dance, freeskate or skills test) and are working on achieving their test levels.
Through the STARSkate program at the BASC, skaters enjoy achieving their badge and test levels, receiving club incentives, participating in theme days, skater’s showcase, carnival, fun day and competing at local competitions.
To move up to senior ice (two of the following must be passed) their preliminary freeskate, preliminary skills and the junior bronze dance test. Seniors that have the test requirements, or are 13 years of age, skate on Monday nights and Saturdays. Private or group lessons are given by their private coach. If your child has not signed up for the current session, please download and print off the registration form here.
